All grown up… the W family

Mothers love photographs, it is that simple.

You give a mother a beautiful photo of her child and she will keep it forever.

There is something so tangible about a photo of your child, weather all grown up or still in pigtails we love them. How many of us grow up, leave home, and have mothers back at home still asking for photos? I know my mother still bugs me for photos and I have the most photographed families I know! But then again as a mother, I can understand the feeling. I cherish each and every one of the images of my little girl. Poor baby boy has no idea what he is getting into.

So, I think it is absolutely lovely when those grown up kids hire me to take photos for their mothers. Erin contacted me a few months back about putting a photo session together for herself, brother & mom.  She and I know each other from Portland State University years back. She wanted to create some photos for her mother of the whole family. Seems mom had been asking for a few years and now was the time to make it happen. Erin lives on the east coast and is only in town to visit a few times a year.

We headed out to the Hawthorne district of Portland shortly before Christmas and had a great time running around & taking photos.

Here are a few of my favorites so far:

Check out our stylish family.

baby brother looking all handsome

big sister looking all beautiful and east coast stylish.

and mom with her beautiful smile.

our super stylish family looking all lovely. It was nice of them to coordinate with the cool mural we found right!

this might be my favorite of Erin & Spencer. I loved catching their reflection in the glass & the city scene.

we also had some silliness while we shot.

and my favorite of the whole family from our afternoon. They really are so lovely together. 🙂

Erin thanks for contacting me to set up the session. It was great to see you again and meet your family. I am so glad the timing & weather worked our in our favor! I hope you like the peek. I will have the whole gallery up for you very soon. 🙂

GIVING is AWESOME 2009 edition

givingisawesome900x100

Remember that crazy Giving is Awesome thing that I did last year? I was not alone, photographers from all over the US participated and made some lovely families very happy.

I posted about it here, and here. I also posted about the wonderful winner & her adorable family here.

bluewallkiddo

(check out my adorable 2008 winners)

Well it is that time of year again so lets start it up again shall we kids.

You know someone.

You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography — $1000 worth, to be exact.  It’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season. The winner will receive a full session, CD with printing rights, a custom coffee table book & a large wall print. Pretty sweet huh!

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a $200 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

givingisawesome140x90

The rules:

* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

* The nominee must reside in the Portland/Salem metro area. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

* The session must take place in January 2009 or early spring. The offer expires July 1, 2009 if not used.

* You must e-mail me the full story : emily (at) emilygphotography.com

* Nominations must be to me by 5pm on December 23rd for consideration.

The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve — get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

With love,

I have the best clients ever…

You hear that? Yeah that is the sound of me gloating. Yeah nah nah nah my clients are awesome and I am not afraid to rub it in.

I have been working with this family for a few years now and like a fine wine or a really spicy pickle they just keep getting better! From belly, to newborn, to chubby baby, to little dude Mr. Madden continues to get even more fun to work with, and his parents are pretty awesome too. For this years holiday session they left it up to me to choose a spot that would work. We had already done home & a natural setting, so for this one we went more edgy and urban. I LOVE it when clients just trust me to run with an idea! Amber did a great job dressing the family & showed up looking amazing as usual. It is great when an idea comes together. 🙂

They were also super troopers that totally braved some crazy wind and sporadic rain. We were crossing our fingers all day, but it worked out beautifully.

So enough of my yapping eh, here are a few of my favorites so far:

hirschpeeking-101

they are so dang cute!

hirschpeeking-107

and Mr. M has gotten even cute. It is just ridiculous how adorable he is right.

hirschpeeking-113

and his parents are pretty  nice to look at too. 😉

hirschpeeking-102

I love how Mr. M is a perfect mix of handsome daddy & beautiful mama here.

hirschpeeking-103

check out those good looking peeps

hirschpeeking-105

and this one might be my absolute FAV. It is like they are having their own little contest to see who can scrunch their nose the most. 😀 Anyone who knows Amber knows that when her nose is all scrunched up it means she is happy, I love that Madden is the same way.

hirschpeeking-106 BW

he he he I could eat his little nose, so cute!

hirschpeeking-109

and one last set of the dashing little Mr. Madden. Oh I just love this kid!

Amber & Greg thanks for another year of radness! You guys are such troopers. I hope you love the peek. Much more in the whole gallery soon!

beautiful baby banks

I don’t think there is anything more complimentary than being given as a gift.

You should remember the super adorable D family from just a few months back. Well Amy had a good friend about to have her own little one and thought a emily g gift certificate was in order. I was so excited to hear the news that my littlest client was born, and tried to wait patiently for the call. Really I tried! When I finally heard from Erica I was over joyed to meet the little guy! By this time he was 5 weeks old and a little more alert than your typical newborn, but really he was a great little model for me.

Here are a few of my favorites so far:

babyfeetset

just look at those tiny toes and sparkly eyes. Just adorable!

bankspeeking-100

and even a smile, I am pretty sure this one was for daddy. Or it could have been he was about to pee on me, who knows!

bankspeeking-103

one thing Erica and I had in common is the love for the bare baby booty! Banks you may hate me when you are 16, but really I just had to.

bankspeeking-104

after a little while the little dude tuckered out.

bankspeeking-105

I just loved his perfect little mouth and button nose. 🙂

bankspeeking-106

check him out all kicked back and relaxing. Such an angel boy.

bankspeeking-107

he loves his hands by his face this one. Such a perfect little poser this one!

BWfamilyset

and of course I just had to wrangle mom & dad into the session as well! Check out how cute the entire family is.

bankspeeking-108

and one last image from our session. Possibly my favorite. I love that little dude is the center of their universe, as it should be right now! This child is clearly loved.

Erica thanks again for having me out to your lovely home to meet your little dude. He is seriously adorable! I so enjoyed meeting all of you, and thanks again HUGE for including me in the Starbucks run. Dad you are a life saver!!! I will have much more for you to see very soon. I hope you enjoyed the little peek. And of course for all my new clients I would love to offer you a comment challenge. If you can get 30 people to comment on this little blog post I will hook you two up with 2 mini wallet brag books. Perfect for showing off a certain angel boy! So leave some love people. 🙂

some real life with the Reel family

You might remember Jamie’s adorable family from this past summer. You know summer, when the sun came out? Ahh good times. Well Jamie & family had me back out, and this time was a bit different. Not just the weather, but the whole session. This time around we set up a more laid back lifestyle session while Jamie’s brothers & father were in town. I came by to capture not just a few posted photos, but just them hanging out. Cooking, playing pool,

I had a great time getting to know the whole family for sure! These people are not only hilarious, but completely welcoming. We had a great time munching on food, playing games, and taking a few photos. Here are a few of my favorites so far.

BWdetails

You might notice little Mr. B is the real star of the show. He had all the ladies doing puzzles on the floor and making towers out of canned goods. He is quite the charmer I admit.

littlebroset

He also has some uncles wrapped around his little finger. But how could you not with a face like that right. 🙂

poolshark

Mr. B might get some of his charm from this man. Grandpa is charming and sweet, and a total pool shark I learned!

ReelLifePeek-116

umbrellaset

when I first arrived it was super dark & rainy, but through the time I was there it did lighten up a bit. We ventured out for a bit with umbrella of course. These two lovebirds are from sunny Reno, NV so yeah we rocked the umbrella.

potatoes

We also did quite a bit of cooking. Jamie was doing a little pre-thanksgiving set up for the family. At some point the topic of Desperate House Wives came up and we had to re-do the famous apple holding pose with the potatoes we had handy. 🙂 These ladies are adorable.

crackberry

we also talked a bit about phone addictions. Bryce’s uncle and I both love our crackberries, but he takes it to a whole new level. 😉

ReelLifePeek-100

and of course I had to get one of the whole family together. Seriously wonderful people here. 🙂

olderbroset

more uncle nephew love, yes indeed proof he did set down the blackberry!

ReelLifePeek-111and one last image of the little guy & star of the show. I just loved his reflection on the glass here. 🙂

Jamie thanks for having me out again to meet the whole family. You all were over the top wonderful to spend time with! I hope the rest of your visits were great and you all had safe travels back to Nevada. I hope you enjoyed the peek, I will have much more for you soon!
