9 months and cute as a button

There is something about that 9 month mark that just kills me. Maybe it is when little ones start transitioning from that little baby look to toddler. Maybe it is that they are usually quick to smile, but start having a glint of mischief in their eyes. it’s just something, I love 9 months old.

Well this little guy did not disappoint. He kept me on my feel for sure, but was adorable to work with. We crawled, rolled, drooled and even blabbered about a little foot ball.

Here are a few of my favorites from our session together…

Leah thanks again for bringing your little guy down to the studio. He was a darling! I will have the whole st for you very soon. I am so looking forward to working with your whole family this fall! For now I would love to offer you a little blog challenge. If you can get 30 people to comment on this post I will throw in a set of cute little brag books on the house.

enjoy!

Tricia & Mark are married!

Tricia & Mark are one of the kindest, warmest, sweetest couples I have ever had the pleasure of capturing. I love that their personalities really came through at their wedding. Held at the beautiful Red Ridge Farms in the Dundee Hills, it was a beautiful warm day, filled with so much love. Each little detail from the shoes, to the bouquet, to the amazing Brazilian food,  to the ice-cream truck glowed with personality and fun. It was one of those weddings where I almost did not want to leave at the end of the night there was so much joy in the air!

Here are a few of my many, many, favorites from the day…

Jaime & her hansom little man

This is the third time I have captured Jaime and her hansom little man, and I just have to say each time he gets more charming and adorable. He is so grown up these days, starting Kindergarten this week! Seeing these two together is always fun, I love their dynamic. Mama clearly loves her little man, and the way he smiles at her melts me. Each time I come home and kiss my little guy and hope we are best buds as he gets older too. For this session we lucked into some magical late summer light at the nature preserve. More blackberries & bug chasing!

Enjoy…

Jaime, thanks again for trusting me to capture your family. It was a pleasure to see you both again. As usual I will be done with the whole set shortly. If you like you can throw down a little blog challenge. 30 comments on this post, means a set of cute little brag books for you. So if you feel like it leave some love people, I know I just adore these two.

Victora + Steve = love

Having only talked via email & phone I was really excited to meet Victoria & Steve. YOu see V&S spent the last few months relocating from across the country, changing homes, jobs & zip codes. It has been a big adventure, but these two have done it all with a smile. I love their spirit. Oh and having adorable puppy Bailey along for the ride helped a big I think. On top of moving these two have been planning their wedding at one of my all time favorite venues The Resort at the Mountain. After chatting more I am sure it is going to be an amazing day. After a beverage and a chat we got down to engagement photos.

Here are a few of my favorites…

Victoria & Steve thanks again for meeting up with me downtown and for being up for anything! I had so much fun with you two. Again I am really looking forward to your wedding here in just a few short weeks. I know it will be amazing! As you know I love me some blog challenges. If you can get 30 people to comment on this blog I will throw in an 11×14 on the house. SO leave some love people!

What to wear, family edition!

Not too long ago I posted  my thoughts on what clients should wear to engagement sessions. it was also a not so subtle post about my love/addiction to pinterest.com. It was a huge hit with clients, so I thought I would continue the series but this time focus on family clients! This is a huge common question. I totally get it, I have the same issue every year when I organize my own family photos.

The key to family wardrobe for photos is really coordination NOT matching. Just like I said in the last post if you show up in matching polos & pleated khakis my camera will magically stop working. 😉 No one wants super dated matchy-matchy family photos. Coordinating means picking a color palette that suits all of you and going with that. It can be as simple as black & white, or all jewel tones, or all primary colors. The options are endless! Just make sure you are not matching, and not outright clashing. I love color & patterns, I think layers are always great. I also love accessories & personality. If your 2 year old lives in his rain boots bring them! Does your 7 year old love her big chunky pink pearls or her rainbow tights, awesome!  Kids should be comfortable and full of character, not stiff & formal in my opinion. If you do want something more formal we can make that work, but it will be extra hard to make jr smile if he has never been in a 3 piece suit before, so just weigh your options carefully.

Here is a fun & sweet family wardrobe idea:

You can see more ideas & inspiration on my “what to wear family” board on pinterest. I plan to keep adding & changing ideas with the seasons.

The options are endless, and can really be more about your setting. If we are doing something more downtown, it may lend it self to brighter colors. But if the setting is an open field, having more outdoorsy, or natural colors can really work.

Here are some great examples:

A few other things to remember:

Did I mention they should be fun? A few things you should NOT do:

  • dye your hair or get a drastic cut the night before (Moms, Dads or kids)
  • try our new makeup you have never worn before
  • wear 5 inch heals if you never, ever wear heels.
  • forget to eat prior (the best images are always of happy, well rested kids with full tummies, trust me)
  • Feed your kids tons of sugar if they are not used to it.

Things you should do prior:

  • get a good night’s sleep the night prior (I know a tall order with little ones, but its so good for your skin!)
  • bring items special your family or kids, that would be fun to include ( Like Malcom’s glasses, Scarlett’s car or Welly’s piano.)
  • Find some fun winter hats, or colorful boots. Again bringing out kids personality is always so fun.
  • choose a location that has special meaning to you guys as a family. Your favorite spot for a hike, or the local icecream shop. I am always up for creative ideas outside the box.

I hope that helps!

And of course, it has to be said. Now is the time to book your pre-holiday sessions! My October & November dates are starting to fill up, so lets get on the calender now! With plenty of time to shop for outfits too!
