just look what you can find while cleaning…

One of the many things on my “To Do” list this week is to pull out images for my new portfolio website. Each year I try and update things around here so that new and prospective couples can get a feel for what I do.

Well while digging through old files this week this one popped out at me.

Anna = Rad Bride for sure.

Do you remember Anna & Matt’s super rainy & super amazing wedding at the Oregon Gardens in Silverton? I posted a sneak peek here and a full slideshow here.

It truly was one of my favorite weddings of the entire summer.  This photo is just one of the many moments I loved capturing.  While looking back makes me marvel about what an amazing year 2009 was, I am also so excited to see what 2010 brings. I am booking weddings & filling up the Summer & Fall calender fast these days.  So many cool new couples I can not wait to work with! If you or anyone you know is looking for a wedding photographer have them contact me ASAP. I will have to cut off my summer & fall bookings once I reach my max amount of weddings so now is the time to set it up. :)

Happy February folks! Only 3.5 weeks until baby time around here!

When brides blog…

I have ridiculously rad clients. It is just that simple. I seem to end up working with wonderfully fun, creative, and stylish people. I am a lucky, lucky girl. One of the craftiness brides of 2009 was the one and only Emily P. Do you remember the amazing wedding, and hello LEGO cake topper! I loved every inch of their wedding.

Well Mrs. Price has a incredibly cute blog now, it is full of cute style bits,  recipes, and as luck would have it has been blogging about her wedding experience.  If any of my 2010 and beyond brides are reading this I would recommend adding PDX Cookie Jar to your blog readers. I am getting Em has some more great information out there for you soon enough!

sign in please…

As I wind down my shooting schedule this month in preparation for little man to make his grand entrance in February I have shifted my energy to a few fun design projects on the list.

The super adorable Megan & Matt have me working on a guest sign in book for their special day showcasing some of the photos we took during their engagement session.

I absolutely adore doing guest sign in books. These books are a great way to show off your engagement photos, and share a little bit more of the couple’s personality on their big day. It is also great because you end up with a keep sake worth showcasing. Each book is individually designed by me to be an original and completely different book than anything else out there.I try my best to bring in the couple’s personality & the wedding theme when possible.

The more traditional guest sign in books (big puffy lined books) honestly, what do you do with those? My old formal guest sign in book is sitting in a box in my basement somewhere! These books are fun to keep on a coffee table and re-read for years to come. The books can either be lined for guest to sign, or have lots of white space for people to leave their best wishes.

If you want to take a sneak peek into what Matt & Megan’s book is looking like I have their first draft posting online here.

GIVING is AWESOME 2009 edition

givingisawesome900x100

Remember that crazy Giving is Awesome thing that I did last year? I was not alone, photographers from all over the US participated and made some lovely families very happy.

I posted about it here, and here. I also posted about the wonderful winner & her adorable family here.

(check out my adorable 2008 winners)

Well it is that time of year again so lets start it up again shall we kids.

You know someone.

You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography — $1000 worth, to be exact.  It’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season. The winner will receive a full session, CD with printing rights, a custom coffee table book & a large wall print. Pretty sweet huh!

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a $200 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

The rules:

* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

* The nominee must reside in the Portland/Salem metro area. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

* The session must take place in January 2009 or early spring. The offer expires July 1, 2009 if not used.

* You must e-mail me the full story : emily (at) emilygphotography.com

* Nominations must be to me by 5pm on December 23rd for consideration.

The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve — get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

With love,

the big question… what to wear?!

a few weeks before a photo session, I always get this question from clients. “What do we wear?!”. I admit it is a very important question. It seems silly, but the right outfit or set of outfits can completely make a session go from great to outstanding. I struggle with it my self! I had my own family photos done last night by a dear friend and college and spent most of the day shopping for the ever picky pink sized diva and her picky papa.

There are a million different ways to dress a family for holiday photos. Personally I prefer bright colors and lots of texture, but that suits my loud boisterous family.  When picking outfits you have to pick something that works for you and your family. If you want more formal photos that is great, if you are more comfortable in jean make it happen! Hello my family is a jeans family, I get wanting to be comfortable! So to help out I am featuring a little style guide put together initially by my friend Michelle.  As usually it is important for a family to coordinate, but not match exactly. Sorry no matching white polos with faded blue jeans, I veto that! :) Having a similar color palette is really helpful. I think the color palettes & texture options would work on most any family.

I hope these help!

Accessories are always fun especially when they bring out kids personalities. I love scarves & cute tights in the set above!

and as always if you have questions just ask me! I am always happy to walk through options prior to a session. I think it is all of our goals to come out of a session looking our best, and clothes are just a part of that. :)
